Description

An early edition of the beloved classic. Since The Boxcar Children® series began in 1942, the adventures of the Alden family have captivated generations of readers. But years before she began working on the series of beloved children's books that remain widely read today, Gertrude Chandler Warner shared a very different version of her best-known tale.

Now, Random House Children's Books, the publisher of The Boxcar Children® series, presents this heritage edition of Warner's 1924 novel The Box-Car Children.

About the Author

Gertrude Chandler Warner grew up in Putnam, Connecticut. She wrote The Boxcar Children because she had always dreamed about what it would be like to live in a caboose or a freight car—just as the Aldens do. When readers asked for more adventures, Warner wrote more books—a total of nineteen in all. After her death, other authors have continued to write stories about Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny Alden, and today The Boxcar Children® series has more than one hundred books.
