Luteranism - From Wittenberg to the USA. One of the things that should stand out very clearly as one reads this historical overview of Lutheranism in America, is the degree to which a church body's orthodoxy and polity can change from one era to the next, even from one generation to the next. The reader will probably come to the conclusion that Lutheranism is itself in great peril. And it is. the conservative, confessional Lutheran bodies comprise the last outpost of orhodox Lutheranism in America, and considerably so also on the world scene of Lutheranism. Perhaps the reader may even recognize in this volume the call to Lutherans to move away from neo-Lutheranism and modernism and return to sound, scriptural orthodoxy, both in teaching and in polity.
