Description

Lucas the lion cub loves playing with his friends, snacking on his favorite foods, watching his favorite shows on TV just like everyone else. But Lucas is different because he doesn't talk. This makes things harder for Lucas, and frustrating, because people don't understand what he wants and he can't find a way to tell them.

Then one day, Lucas's mom brings him The Tiny Talker(TM) to help when he can't find the words he needs. The Tiny Talker Method helps children with communicative disabilities learn to use an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) device in a more natural way.

By pairing the device with a storybook, children are able to see the symbols in the story, touch the corresponding sound buttons on their Tiny Talker(TM) device, and hear the device's response. This reinforces children's understanding by appealing to visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learning styles all at once. Lucas the Lion Loves The Tiny Talker(TM) is a fun and intuitive way to help children find their voice.

About the Author

Ryan and Brittani Rollen are parents of a nonverbal son. After experiencing his frustrations in being unable to communicate, they developed The Tiny Talker™ to help him. The Tiny Talker is a portable, inexpensive speech aid with buttons which verbalize common communication needs. Then, the Rollens had a new idea: a book would help kids with special needs learn how to use The Tiny Talker and other speech aids! In Lucas the Lion Loves The Tiny Talker, parents can read their child the story of how Lucas uses The Tiny Talker throughout his day. In reading the story, the child presses the buttons on The Tiny Talker and learns to use the device! Alvina Kwong was born in Hawaii and moved to Southern California when she was about 7 years old. She loves the ocean, dogs and ice cream. The minute she started to draw for the first time, she knew that the pencil was the ticket to her imagination. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration, and currently lives in Los Angeles with her family and goofy Boxer.
