About the Author

Dr. Fay Gyapong-Porter is a first-generation African-American raised in Brooklyn, New York by immigrant parents. Her mother was raised in Kumasi, Ghana, West Africa.
From an early age, the importance of education was instilled in her life. She had a curious mind, a very active imagination and many interests as a child.
Her parents often quoted parables from their respective cultures to live by. In addition, her mother, Enid, a.k.a. "Nen", along with her Aunt Sybil and other Jamaican family members often recited old sayings which depicted life circumstances- big or small. These sayings always resonated with Dr. Fay, so she is happy to finally be able to fulfill her long-cherished dream of sharing some of her most salient memories of them with others in a whimsical way. Fay Gyapong is a first generation American born to a Ghanian father and a Jamaican mother who was born in Cuba.
Growing up in Brooklyn New York, she grew up under the influence of both cultures but primarily the Jamaican culture. Her mother and aunt would often use Jamaican sayings to punctuate or describe a situation. This book was made to share with others as a sweet gesture and as a proud acknowledgement of the fond memories growing up in such a rich culture as well as to show appreciation of her mother and aunt.
