After her parents' bitter divorce, family vacations to the Big Island in Hawaii ceased. Dallas Woodburn is a recent John Steinbeck Fellow in Creative Writing at San Jose State University and a four-time Pushcart Prize nominee. She won first place in the international Glass Woman Prize and second place in the American Fiction Prize. Her short stories have appeared in Cicada, ZYZZYVA, The Nashville Review, Fourth River, and Monkeybicycle, among many others, and her short stories have won the Cypress & Pine Short Fiction Award. Woodburn has published more than eighty articles and essays in national markets including The Los Angeles Times, Family Circle, Writer’s Digest, Modern Loss,Justine, and two-dozen Chicken Soup for the Soul titles. Woodburn received her MFA in Fiction Writing from Purdue University and her BA in Creative Writing from the University of Southern California. She is also the founder of Write On! Books (www.writeonbooks.org), an organization empowering youth through reading and writing endeavors.
